With the introduction of the Government's free pre-school year under the ECCE scheme those working and managing childcare services are now required to enhance and upgrade their qualifications. Atlantic College Galway has responded to this need by introducing a range of FETAC courses in the early childhood care and education sector, the most popular being the FETAC Level 5 certificate in childcare and the FETAC Level 6 advanced certificate in childcare. These courses are delivered in Atlantic College on Saturdays, beginning March 26. The Saturday delivery is proving very popular with childcare students, many of whom are working in childcare services during the week and can dedicate Saturday to study.

A meeting took place last night in Kilkenny for those affected by the sudden closure of Empower Training this month.

KIlkenny-based Empower Training remains in limbo as the State accreditation body FETAC analyses a report from the centre on alleged irregularities at the centre.

FETAC, the statutory awarding body for further education and training in Ireland, has confirmed that Empower Training, based in Kilkenny, has had access to FETAC accreditation suspended following an investigation into quality issues at the centre.
